IV and Mineral Therapy
What is IV Vitamin Therapy?
IV vitamin therapy (or intravenous vitamin therapy) is a means by which a healthy and safe dose of nutrients are given to a patient through their circulatory system. An intravenous solution contains a specially balanced combination of vitamins and minerals. By administering the solution intravenously, it ensures maximum absorption since it is put straight into your bloodstream.
Vitamins and minerals provide the raw materials necessary for our cells to function properly. Usually we can get the nutrients through our diet if we are conscientious of what we eat. However, sometimes even a great diet may not translate to proper nutrition at the cellular level. There can be many causes of this that may include: poor digestion, food sensitivities, chronic inflammation, poor immune function, or any other sickness. A vicious cycle ensues – our cells are not healthy and they need nutrients to heal. However, the nutrients are not available because our cells are too weak to transport the vitamins and minerals to where they are needed. This scenario describes a typical situation in which IV therapy would be indicated.
In IV therapy, the dose is high enough that the vitamins can actually enter the cells without using cellular energy. The advantage of intravenous administration is that the nutrients bypass the stomach and liver for metabolism and go directly to the bloodstream where they are needed. This will allow the cells to rapidly repair and regain strength. Once this happens the cells will be able to function normally again.
IV Therapy And Its Uses
IV vitamin therapy may be used as a preventive measure against aging, or to improve sports performance, increase energy, or create a greater sense of well being. Still others may use this type of therapy at the onset of cold or other viral infection.
IV therapy is very effective in treating the following health concerns:
Acute viral illness/cold
Muscle spasms and pain
Seasonal allergic rhinitis
schemic vascular disease
Recovery for athletes
Congestive heart failure
Epstein Barr virus
Benefits of IV Therapy
Supplies essential nutrients in patients with malabsorption problems
Stimulates and supports immune system
Improves circulation and unblocks arteries
Decreases aches and pains
Increases cellular detoxification
Increases body's ability to heal
Gives a sense of well-being
How many treatments are required?
Patients vary in the number of treatments needed, but most require infusions one to two times per week. Some patients experience improvement after only three treatments, and many report significant healing by the fifth or sixth infusion. Patients who have chronic (long standing) conditions may need ongoing treatment of several IV's per week, or periodically every few weeks.
What can I expect?
IV solutions are infused slowly over a period of 45-75 minutes while you rest and relax.
Is it safe?
IV vitamin therapy is safe, effective, and a minimally invasive therapy that is well tolerated by most patients. It carries a low risk of serious adverse side effects. If the solution is administered quickly, there may be a sensation of warmth and flushing. This is due to the rapid rise of magnesium. Some patients may also have the taste of vitamins in their mouth shortly after the infusion is started; however, this can be limited by having a meal before coming in for an IV and having healthy snacks on hand to enjoy throughout the infusion. It is also important to drink plenty of water before your IV and during the infusion. Because it accesses the bloodstream, IV vitamin therapy should be administered only by an experienced and licensed naturopathic doctor who can ensure the delivery is safe and the dosage is effective.
