Are you deficient in Vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12 is a complex yet essential vitamin required for the growth and protection of our nervous system.   It works by increasing the creation of proteins that help regenerate nerves.  Not all forms of vitamin B12 are effective.    The most effective form is methylcobalamin.  The most inexpensive form is cyanocobalamin but it is difficult for the body to absorb.  As a result, those who take routine doses of cyanocobalamin continue to be deficient in the vitamin.

Vitamin B12, in methylcobalamin form, has a long list of benefits including:

  • Enhances mood and increases energy
  • Decreases depression, anxiety and nervousness
  • Improves memory and slows memory loss
  • Relieves constipation and digestive disorders
  • Prevents and treats various anemia’s along with folic acid
  • Helps prevent and slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease
  • Aids in the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis
  • Enhances sleep patterns

Vitamin B12 deficiency is caused by malabsorption and is most common in the elderly, in people with digestive disorders or in people with an intestinal tract that cannot manufacture the instrisic factor protein.

Vitamin B12 is most effective when injected into the muscle.  A B12 injection into the muscle allows for 100% absorption of the vitamin into the cells of your system. Oral forms of B12 are only partially absorbed since they must pass through your gastrointestinal system which may or may not be functioning optimally.  At The Lakeside Clinic, we treat all the conditions mentioned in this article with regular B12 injections along with other effective therapies.  We offer free 15 minute consultations.
